Barbara Ann (Bolles) Serra, 82 of Moonlight Drive Westerly, RI, beloved mother and “grammi” passed away peacefully on Friday January 26, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.
Barbara was born on June 20, 1935 in Hartford, CT to Richard C. and Florence (McDonald) Bolles.
She was raised in Bloomfield, CT until she fell in love with School Drive, building the house on the hill. She later renamed the drive to moonlight because of how the moon shined on the ocean.
Barbara was an incredible bookkeeper of S&S Enterprises, working behind the scenes. She owned and operated JBS Cleaners. Barbara was an avid sports fan especially college basketball. She enjoyed gardening, waving to everyone who came up and down the hill. She enjoyed her time with the children as a math tutor at Dunn’s Corner Elementary School. Barbara battled and was a survivor of four cancers in her lifetime.
She will be forever missed by her children; Mathew Serra, Jr., Richard “Rippy” Serra (Camelia), Mark Serra (Teresa Lombardo Guarnieri), Suann Serra and Jean Ann (Thomas Shields). She was the adoring and loving grandmother of, Bryan Serra and wife Haley, Richard Serra II, Nathan Serra, Rachel Serra, Mason Serra Lombardo, Lindsay Shields and Morgan Shields. She will be sadly missed by her best friend Janice Butler, Barbara was predeceased by her cousin, Charles Raymond Dowd, Jr.
Barbara enjoyed the staff at Apple Rehab Watch Hill and the family is grateful for their loving care and support as well as Hope Hospice, Dr. Luk and Staff, Deacon LaFleur and Father Perkins
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, January 31, from 4 to 7 pm at Buckler-Johnston 121 Main St. Westerly, RI. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, 95 Main St. Stonington, CT, on Thursday at 11:00 AM. There is no procession from the funeral home. Interment will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Pawcatuck, CT.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dr. Nile Albright, Advanced Medical Research Foundation.
