Donald W. Swain Jr.

Donald W Swain Jr, 76, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2017 following a long courageous battle with cancer.  He leaves his wife of 53 years, Patricia (Friedel) Swain, his two sons Tod and Jared Swain, and 5 grandchildren.

Born in Westerly RI, Donald graduated from Westerly High School.  He spent most of his life in the Westerly-Pawcatuck area until his retirement from Electric Boat after 36 years of employment.  Upon retirement, Donald and Patricia enjoyed their lives spending time between Florida and Connecticut. Donald was an avid softball player, who played every chance he got.  He had fun playing in numerous softball tournaments and was a serious competitor.  He enjoyed playing on many successful teams and received a number of awards.  One memorable experience was helping his team win a gold medal in the 2007 National Senior Games.  When not playing, Donald enjoyed watching the Red Sox.  He was a member of the Westerly Yacht Club as well as the Bocce Club of Westerly.  He is survived by his brother Alex Swain, his sister Holly Groeschel (Susan Swain) and he was predeceased by his brother Kenneth Swain.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday Dec 13, 2017 from 3pm - 6pm with a short service at 5pm at Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly, RI.  There will be a private burial.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
