GLASS, EVANGELINE (STEVENS), 100, formerly of The Elms in Westerly, died on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the Royal Westerly. She was the wife of the late John Raymond Glass. She leaves a daughter, Stephanie (Stevie) Glass Champion and her husband, Douglas Paul Champion; three grandchildren, and her beloved coon cat, Sam. She was predeceased by a son, Reverend Jonathan T. Glass.
Born in Providence on July 28, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Ansel Stevens (Stevens the Sign Man) and Teresa Cherie Stevens. Evie attended Classical and Hope High Schools and the Rhode Island School of Design. Until her retirement in the late 1980’s, she most recently was employed by Food Services at Brown University.
In coordination with Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, cremation and a private interment of her ashes will take place at Swan Point Cemetery in Providence. A memorial service will be held at a later date this Spring.
The family is very grateful for the loving care provided by the entire staffs at both The Elms and Royal Westerly throughout Evie’s residence and for the immediate attention of Hope Hospice when called upon for assistance.
