Frances Mary (Levy) Miner, 80, of North Stonington, CT, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, March 4, 2017. Born on December 28, 1936 in Westerly, RI, she was the daughter of the late John M. and Mary F. (Clay) Levy and wife of the late George W. Miner (for 41 years).
A graduate of Westerly High School, she worked for several years at McCormick’s Department Store before marrying her husband. Her life as a farm wife found her embracing canning and preserves; she was known to all for her baking, especially the trademark cinnamon rolls she made by the dozens every holiday. Like her mother, Frances was gifted in sewing…and her needlework skills extended to embroidery and knitting that won state-wide blue ribbons in Grange and fair competition. A Golden Sheaf member of the Grange (for more than 60 years), she served as an officer at Westerly Grange in her youth and for more than a decade was Lecturer of North Stonington Community Grange, where she also filled other offices in recent years. For the past 16 years, her greatest joy was being a grandmother, providing her grandson with after-school care and companionship. Frances was known for her warmth and her caring, giving heart – always there with a smile, a homemade dessert or meal, a helping hand to family or friends in need, and grace to meet any challenge life gave her.
She leaves her sons Maurice G. Miner of Nashville, TN and Robert J. Miner, his wife Cheree and her grandson Jason R. Miner all of North Stonington, CT.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas More Church, 87 Mystic Rd., North Stonington. Family and friends are welcome to meet directly at the church for the mass. Burial will immediately follow at Union Cemetery in North Stonington. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly, RI.
