Joseph Gavitt

Joseph (Joe) Gavitt, 91, of Westerly, passed away on September 14, 2017 with his loving wife, Aurelia (Dinwoodie) Gavitt at his side. Born in Westerly, RI, he was the son of Phillip H. and Mattley (Lattin) Gavitt. In addition to his wife, Joe his survived by his daughter Janice Eno and her husband, Fred, of Pawcatuck, CT, Brad Gavitt and his wife, Connie, of Salna, Alaska, Anita Greene and her husband, Edwin of Weserly, and Candace Harris and her husband, Richard, of Westerly. Joe was predeceased by his son, Gregory M. Gavitt. He was the loving grandfather of 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Joe was the owner and operator of Gavitt Sanitary Service. A carpenter by trade, after selling his sanitation business he worked for V& M Construction. He was proud that his last job was working for his son, Brad, at Creative Woodworking in Westerly, RI. Joe had a servant’s heart and worked diligently and without fanfare to care for his family and help his friends and church. Joe chose to follow Christ as his Savior. He was a steady example showing that in Christ all things are possible.
He was a member of the Dunns Corner Fire Department and North Stonington Bible Church. A Memorial service will take place at the North Stonington Bible Church on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 1:00 pm.
