Albert W. Kapple, Sr., 84 of Westerly, RI passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2018 at Westerly Hospital. He was the loving husband of Nancy A. (Richards) Kapple and together they shared 56 years of marriage. Born in Waukegan, IL on November 16, 1934, he was the son of the late Horace L. and Lola A. (Corriveau) Kapple.
Albert grew up on his family’s dairy farm in Ridgefield, IL. Following high school, he went on to service his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He served aboard the destroyer the USS Buck and then as a submariner on the USS Patrick Henry 599. He taught sub school in Groton, CT and retired from service on the USS Nathanael Greene 636 and he continued to be a member of the Fleet Reserve for over 50 years. After the military, he worked as a nuclear technician at Public Service Electric and Gas in Salem and Hope Creek, NJ and retired from there after 20 years of employment in 1996. Even in retirement, he enjoyed his work on the Weekapaug Golf Course, was an avid reader of paperback Westerns and then moved on to the iPad where he continued to read, play Mahjong, solitaire and puzzels. He enjoyed watching the UCONN women’s basketball team and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Most importantly, he loved his family especially his grandchildren. Albert will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Besides his wife Nancy, he leaves his children Christine Kapple, Albert Kapple, Jr. and his wife Theresa, Brian Kapple and his wife Jessica and Cheryl Bernat and her husband Bruce; his grandchildren Gus, Thomas, Kendall, Danielle and Spencer; his siblings Mary Easter and Marge Beeler and her husband Jim; several nieces and nephews along with his dog and dear companion Daisy. He was preceded in death by his sister Marcia Vincent.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St. Westerly, RI. Calling hours will be from 12:00p.m. (noon) until 2:00p.m. before the service.
