Barbara J. Benson

Barbara J. Benson died on April 22, 2018 in Westerly, RI. She was the daughter of the late Farquhar and Mary (Carr) smith. She was predeceased by her brother, Farquhar “Bud” Smith.
Born in Westerly on October 27, 1926, she attended Westerly Public Schools, and graduated from Katherine Gibbs School in Boston, MA in 1946.
Barbara worked for many years at the Ashaway Line and Twine Products as an Office Manager before retiring. She was a volunteer at the Westerly Public Library, Docent at the Babcock Smith House and Westerly Historical Society, and a member of Christ Church.
Barbara will be remembered for her strong work ethic, her love of traveling the world and for her fun loving gregarious personality.
She is survived by her sons; Robert E. Benson of Laramie, WY and Thomas E. Benson and his wife, Judith of Westerly, RI. She was the loving grandmother of Thomas, Robert, Stuart Benson of Laramie, WY and Tanner Hurley of Westerly, RI; as well as three great grandsons.
The Benson family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, April 28, 2018 from 2-4pm at the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly, RI. Burial will be private at River Bend Cemetery.
