Welcome to the memorial page for

Donald Lee Campbell Jr.

October 31, 1951 ~ October 25, 2017 (age 65) 65 Years Old
Donald Campbell Jr., 65, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2017 after a brief illness. He was in the company of his long-time companion, Jane Laczynski. His last words were "Tell everybody that I love them".
Don was a life-long resident of Westerly, graduating from Westerly High School, class of 1969.
He was employed at Almacs Supermarket for many years as a clerk in charge of ordering merchandise.
Don was an accomplished singer, musician and songwriter.  He was a leader of several popular local bands, including The Driftwoods in the 60's, Crusader Rabbit in the 70's, and the Almacs party band, Four for a Dollar.
Don's most successful band was The Promise, a popular fixture at Misquamicut Beach and around New England throughout the 80's. The Promise, with Don as lead singer and rhythm guitarist, played rocking cover versions of the best artists of the day, as well as Don’s original songs, to standing room only crowds. They were a finalist in the WBRU FM Rock Hunt Battle of the Bands contest. A tribute album is in the works to honor Don's many musical accomplishments.
Don was also an author of novels and short stories.  He was an avid reader and rabid Patriots fan.
Don is survived by his father, Donald Campbell, Sr. and brother, Kenneth Campbell and his wife, May. He is predeceased by his mother, Priscilla Campbell. Don is also survived by his partner, Jane Laczynski. Don's close friendship with brothers George and David Bauerle has resulted in their children referring to him as "Uncle Don". These "nieces and nephews" include Chad, Caitlyn, Sarah and Brent, who will miss Don's humor and kindness, as will we all.
In lieu of flowers, please say a prayer for Don and tell someone you love how much they mean to you.
A celebration of Donald’s life will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Buckler- Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main Street, Westerly, RI 02891.  There are no calling hours before the service.  Burial will follow the service at River Bend Cemetery in Westerly.  For online condolences, please visit www.buckler-johnston.com
