Douglas T. McGowan

Douglas T. McGowan, 73, of North Stonington, CT passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on Friday, October 20, 2023 at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital, New London. He was the loving husband of Debra (Umphlett) McGowan and together they shared 48 years of marriage. Born in New London, CT on September 4, 1950, he was the son of the late Thomas E. Jr. and Rosa (Mast) McGowan.

Doug worked for the State of Connecticut Highway Department for 33 years. He also worked for over 20 years at Posi-Seal International. After his retirement in 2002, he enjoyed hunting, gardening, cooking, landscaping, and caring for his grandchildren. He was a lifetime member of the Groton Sportsman Club. Doug was also willing to help any friend in need.

Besides his wife Debra, he leaves his son Thomas D. McGowan and spouse Amy (Shaw) McGowan, and daughter Karrie R. (McGowan) Schwaab and spouse Ryan Schwaab, all of North Stonington, CT; grandchildren Bailey McGowan, John Schwaab, and Wyatt Schwaab; brothers Dennis McGowan and spouse Heidi McGowan, along with Donald McGowan and spouse Monica McGowan; and several nieces and nephews. Doug leaves behind many special friends.

Calling hours will be held from 5:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly, RI 02891. Funeral services will be held the following day Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at 10:00am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pendleton Hill Cemetery, N. Stonington, CT.
