Duane Vance, 94 years old, passed away on May 12, 2021. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years Jeannette (Lavoie) Vance. Duane was born in Louisville, Kentucky, son of Dolly (Hoffman) Bates and J. Edward Vance. He grew up in Tonganoxie, Kansas and attended Tonganoxie High School. Duane joined the Navy in 1942 at the age of 17. He met his wife Jeannette in 1947 and they were married on Valentine’s Day 1948.
Duane was a Chief Aviation Radioman and was awarded several medals during his 20 years in service. He was a member of the Hurricane Hunters Squadron.
After serving the Navy, Duane worked for sup ships in Groton as a supervisor for 15 years. He was a life time member of the Groton Sportsmen’s Club. He was an avid golfer.
Duane was survived by his five children, Cindy (Ed) Graham, Lynda (James) Mackenzie, Sherry (Steve) Shakeshaft, Duane (Gisele) Vance and Tina (Neil) Jones. He has eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
All services will be private. He will be missed by all of his family and friends.
