Edward Murphy

August 24, 1946 ~ November 17, 2022 (age 76) 76 Years Old

Tribute

Edward John Murphy, 76, of Westerly, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at the Westerly Hospital. He was the loving husband of Cevyn C. Murphy. Born on August 24,1946 in Allentown, PA, he was the son of the late Edward A. and Helen Theresa (Granahan) Murphy.
Ed was a proud graduate of Chaminade (New York) High School, Villanova University (BS), and George Washington University (MBA). Upon returning from Vietnam in 1971 and earning the rank of Captain in the United States Marine Corps, Ed entered the American manufacturing industry, working in executive level roles at ITT, Lori Locks, IMI Cornelius, and Servend International. Utilizing many of the skills that he learned early on in his career, he later pivoted to business consulting work and his own company, Murphy & Spring. Ed also volunteered for the State of Rhode Island’s SCORE Program, advising small business entrepreneurs on the keys to successful operations. A voracious reader, he could be found consuming literature (sometimes twice) anywhere from the Westerly Town Beach to the back of his boat, Slainte, or with his morning paper at Point Panic.  When at home, Ed loved learning and working with modern technology, tinkering with his most recent laptop purchase or iPhone designed for a younger generation. Always with a simple wisecrack at the ready, he was the center of any gathering and encouraged all in attendance to share their story, expertise, or experience. More than anything, he just loved having his boys be around.
Besides his wife Cevyn, he leaves his children Brendan, Brian (Jenny), and Liam (Kate); granddaughters Cara, Brigid, and Maggie Rose; his brother Dennis and his wife Sally, and his sister Nancy and her husband David Geikie, and his nieces Courtney and Katie Murphy, Heather Jordan and Lauren Taguding.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Ed’s name to Feed The Hungry (www.feedthehungry.org) or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
