The North End has lost another of its greatest generation members. Florence (Terranova) Capizzano, 93, wife of the late Angelo Capizzano, passed peacefully on August 28, 2022. Born on Pierce St. Lane, in Westerly, Florence was the daughter of the late Frank and Immacolata (Ritacco) Terranova. She lived her entire life within one mile of her birthplace, first on Pleasant Street, close to the old Orsenigo Furniture Company, where her husband worked, then on Turano Avenue where they were both well known for their large and productive garden. Her world revolved around that garden, the vegetables that came out of it and the meaning of love it brought to the family and friends that shared in it.
Dutiful mother, motivated by love, she will be sadly missed by daughter Lydia White (Brian) of Westerly, R.I. and sons Stephen (Suzanne) of Mystic, CT, Jack (Elizabeth O’connor) of Westerly, R.I., Jeffery (Arrow) of Washington, D.C., grandchildren Christie (Carl) Johnson, Lisa (Kris) Reed, Jack Capizzano and Acri Capizzano, great-grandchildren Holden, Ayla, Grayson Reed and CJ Johnson, as well as loving sister Virginia Craig of Mystic, CT. She is predeceased by brothers John (Shorty) Terranova, Roland Terranova, Frank Terranova and Joseph Terranova, sisters Bea Severns and Rita Morgan, as well as longtime friend Leo Morgan. Our mother lived her life in a strong and quiet way and will be missed.
In lieu of flowers please donate in Florence’s name to Hope Health Hospice, 1085 N Main St, Providence, RI 02904, who helped so graciously during the last few months. Also, to her friends form Care At Home for the care they gave her.
