Hollis Charles Mckee
July 20, 1953 ~ August 28, 2023 (age 70) 70 Years Old
Hollis Charles McKee, 70, of Westerly, RI died peacefully on Monday August 28, 2023 at Yale-New Haven Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Karen (Sinkowitz) McKee.
Born in Manchester, CT on July 20, 1953 he was the son of the late Hollis Earl and Beatrice (Trombley) McKee. He was survived by his sister Edna Saunders, brother-in-law Mike, his two daughters Robin McKee, Maria Connors, his son Derek McKee daughter-in-law Kim as well as his six grandchildren Marc Anthony, Miles, Sophia, Shane, Russell and Maddie.
After graduating Glastonbury High, Hollis served as a Staff Sargent in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Once he returned he attended Johnson and Wales University where he graduated with a B.S in Mechanical Engineering.
In his professional life, Hollis worked for Northeast Utilities for 18 years until transitioning into the commercial energy sector as a top level associate at both Paquette Electric and ConServ. He then moved onto creating his own energy consulting business, Energy Resources, until he then decided to move back to the utilities, working at Groton Utilities as an Energy Engineer. During his 40+ years in the business Hollis became a cornerstone in the industry well know and well-liked by his colleagues and customers for his straightforward thinking and hardworking mentality.
In his personal life, Hollis was a loving family man and a friend to all. He and his wife Kay taught his motto to his kids, "Hard work breeds success!" and he worked hard to spend time with his family and teach those values by example every day. He spent as much time as he could outdoors and with his family. In his early years deer hunting and fly fishing in southern New England were his passion. As he grew older he transitioned into a saltwater fishing fanatic. He loved the Westerly Yacht Club and as Past Commodore he knew everyone. Every relationship Hollis built was as strong as he was; to some he was a leader, the life of the party, the Captain, a loving Husband, Dad or Poppy but to everyone he was a great friend who lived life his way every day.
The McKee family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday August 31, 2023 from 5-8 PM at the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St. Westerly, RI.
A graveside service will be held on Friday September 8, 2023 at 11:00 AM at River Bend Cemetery, Beach St. Westerly, RI.
