Jacqueline K. Hutcheon, 92, of Wakefield, RI and formerly of Westerly passed away on Friday March 3, 2023. She was the wife of the late William R. Hutcheon for 64 years when he died in November of 2017.
Mrs. Hutcheon was born in Carolina, RI on December 5, 1930the daughter of the late Lloyd and Anna (Fortune) Kenyon. She is survived by her sister-in –law Betty Kenyon and she was predeceased by her brother, Rev. Dr. Lloyd Kenyon
Jackie graduated from Westerly High School in 1948. She received a BA degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1952. In Tacoma, Washington at the Pacific Lutheran University she received a Master’s degree (MA) in 1977.
Jackie started her career as an elementary and junior high teacher in RI, CT, and the state of Washington. In the 1960’s she became President of the Bellevue (WA) Education Association and went on to become full-time President of the State Education Association in 1969-1971. Following years she became the first woman UNiServ director in Washington representing the local, state and national education association.
After receiving her master’s degree she joined St .Martins College, Lacey. WA as Director of the Evening College Program. By 1980 Jackie joined Central Texas College as their Director of educational classes for American military stationed in the Republic of Panama. She then continued managing these classes and teaching of children of the military in Hanau, Germany for eleven years.
During her many years in the state of Washington, the Republic of Panama and West Germany/Germany Jackie was listed in Who’s Who in American Women.
During her professional career Jackie and her husband Bill traveled throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America, Europe and Africa.
In 1994 Jackie retired and returned to her native Rhode Island. During her retirement years she volunteered at the Chorus of Westerly, the Westerly Hospital (President of the Auxiliary and a Trustee) and the Westerly Library (President of the Friends and a Trustee.
