Jacqueline M. Hynes

Jacqueline (Montie) Hynes, age 82 of Westerly Rhode Island, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, September 22nd. She was the devoted wife of 62 years to Thomas R. Hynes.

Jackie was born in Hartford, CT on July 3, 1939 to parents Wilson and Leona Montie. She graduated from Newington High School in 1957, and while she spent some time in traditional workplaces, her most fulfilling role was as an independent child care provider for families in Newington and West Hartford, CT.

Jackie was a lover of the outdoors. This passion came from her childhood summers spent with her siblings and grandmother on Lake Massawippi in Quebec, Canada. In her adulthood, she spent many summers with her husband and children camping throughout New England and the East Coast. She loved the ocean and the family cottage in Westerly, where she enjoyed bodysurfing and sailing. Winters were spent ice skating and cross-country skiing. Jackie knew how to have fun, laugh, and was always willing to take on new adventures. She was a kind soul who encouraged everyone to experience what life had to offer with an open mind and heart. Her approach to life included keeping things simple and not sweating the small stuff, and she viewed her life’s experiences as her education – always willing to learn not just from books or schooling, but by interacting and listening to others while being “in the moment”. This outlook helped establish many life-long friendships Jackie enjoyed until her passing.

Along with her husband, left to cherish her memory are: her sister Patricia Palma-Raymond and her partner Andrew Woitko of Little River, SC; her daughter Elizabeth Hynes of Cranston, RI; her son Douglas and his wife Danita of Newburyport, MA; and her son Kenneth and his wife Tracey of Newington, CT. Jackie was blessed with two grandchildren Katherine and Ean, along with many nephews, nieces and friends. Jackie was predeceased by her brother George (Bill) Montie.

Services will begin with a calling hour for friends and family to be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021 from 10:00am to 11:00am. A service will follow at 11:00am at the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St, Westerly, RI. Committal services will be held at a later date.
