James A. Clapham, 79, of Westerly, passed away on November 12th. Born in South Kingstown, RI on September 3, 1943 he was the son of the late William H. and Ina (Fletcher) Clapham. Jim was the husband of M. Michelle (Hindle) Clapham for 41 years.
Jim worked as a heavy equipment operator and truck driver for 50 plus years at local excavation companies as well as Harris Graphics for 10 years. Some memorable projects include the 95 construction at Big River and some Break Waters in the area.
Jim had a passion for classic cars from a very young age. He enjoyed bringing his classic cars to shows. He had a great love for animals and surf casting at Weekapaug. Jim was a member of The Dunn’s Corners Fire Department since 1963 and an active member of The Westerly Pawcatuck Antique Automobile Club.
Jim will be greatly missed by his wife M. Michelle Clapham, his sons Thomas Clapham, Christopher Gallagher and his daughter Debra Peterson. Jim also leaves 3 grandchildren, his brother Andrew Clapham and his wife Chant and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 4th at 2pm at The Seventh Day Baptist Church, 8 Church St., Ashaway, RI.
