John Alcide Chandler

July 10, 1940 ~ January 1, 2021 (age 80) 80 Years Old

Tribute

John A. Chandler, 80, of Westerly, passed away on January 1, 2021, at Westerly Hospital. He was the husband of the late Noel (Smith) Chandler, and together they had shared nineteen years of marriage. Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Alcide and Catherine (Houlihan) Chandler.

John worked in various positions in Pfizer’s fermentation division for 29 years before retiring from the General Facilitator position in 1998. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served in the United States Army. John loved the outdoors: He was an avid fisherman, and he loved camping and canoeing. He was an ardent reader who was never without a book—a hobby he inspired in many who knew him. He was also a devoted animal lover and enjoyed the company of numerous beloved pets over the years. John was known for his kind and generous nature, rivaled only by his keen sense of humor. Most importantly, John loved spending time with his family—his most treasured pastime.

He leaves his daughter Jessica Chandler and her husband, Braden Maslyn; his daughter Diana (Dee) Williamson; his stepson Barrett Williamson, his grandchildren Timothy Fagre, Lindsay Fagre, Brian Simons, Kara Williamson, Ian Williamson, and Jenna Marisco; his siblings Patricia O’Malley and Thomas Chandler; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings Catherine Washburn, Eleanor Hoogerzeil, and Alfred Chandler; his stepdaughter Noel Simons; his grandson Darryl Simons; and his beloved great-granddaughter Lia Rose Page. He also leaves behind his constant furry companions Tiva and Kiki.

Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his name to Stand Up for Animals.
