John H. Ornberg
January 25, 1945 ~ May 18, 2022 (age 77) 77 Years Old
John H. Ornberg, beloved husband of 54 years to Sharon (Morris) Ornberg, passed away peacefully at home on May 18, 2022 at the age of 77.
Born in Westerly, RI, he was the son of the late Thor and Helen Ornberg. He was pre-deceased by his sisters, Melinda Naccarato and Judith Azzinaro along with his brother Thor “Buzz” Ornberg III.
He is survived by his brother Stephen K. Ornberg and his spouse Sherry and his sister-in-law Carole Ornberg. His sons John E. Ornberg (Debbie) and Thomas T. Ornberg (Misty). He was the loving grandfather of Elizabeth M. Ornberg, Julie Ornberg, Allison M. Ornberg, Anthony A.A. Ornberg and Emily G. Ornberg. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
John graduated from Westerly High School, Class of 1963 and received his Bachelor of Science in Business Management from New England Institute of Technology. He worked as an all-around Machinist, foreman and supervisor at the former Harris Graphics Corporation in Pawcatuck, CT where he was issued 2 U.S. Patents.
He was a member of the Rhode Island National Guard as well as a lifetime member of the Westerly Fire Police.
He spent his retirement years enjoying wood carving, hunting, fishing, dancing, painting, gardening, clamming, and of course every summer he and Sharon could always be found at the Westerly Town Beach with their friends “The Chair 8 Gang”.
Along with all that, he also kept an interest in his community as he served on both the town of Westerly Zoning board and the Conservation Committee. He also served as Treasure for the Church of Westerly.
He has a passion and zest for life that will be greatly remembered and missed terribly. A graveside service with military honors will be held at noon on Saturday, September 10th at River Bend Cemetery, 117 Beach St., Westerly.
In lieu of flowers donations in his name can be made to the Jonnycake Center, 23 Industrial Drive in Westerly.
