John Randell Smart

John Randall Smart, 55, of Pawcatuck, CT passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was the husband of Jennifer Aileen (Runge) Smart. He was born in San Angelo, TX on April 29, 1966, he was the son of Tommy Hull Smart and the late Rita Edaleen Glazener.

John served his country proudly in the US Army during the Gulf War. He described himself as a “ground pounder” and was an expert marksman focusing on guided missiles for tanks. After the Army, he continued his dedication to helping others working in the law enforcement for the Sherriff’s department as well as being a corrections officer. He was always there to help anyone in need. He was a social person who loved sharing stories and telling a good joke that definitely would make you laugh. Most of all he loved his family and taking care of his best friend and love of his life, his wife Jennifer. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Besides his wife Jennifer, he leaves his son Christopher Edwards along with 19 foster children that he raised as his own. He also leaves his 2 brothers and 3 sisters; his 5 nephews; his father-in-law Rev. Lewis Runge; and a sister-in-law Jeanette Ayala and her husband Gilbert.

Funeral services will military honors will be held at 12:00pm (Noon) on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St, Westerly, RI. Friends and family are welcome for a calling hour beginning at 11:00am until the time of the service. Committal services will be held at a later date.
