Josephine Fusaro

June 7, 1929 ~ May 12, 2019 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Tribute

Josephine (Caliri) Fusaro, 89, of Westerly, RI died peacefully on Sunday, May 12, 2019 at Sunny View Nursing Home in Warwick, RI, less than a month shy of her ninetieth birthday.

She was the beloved wife of the late Charles E. Fusaro of Westerly. Born in Providence, RI on June 7, 1929, Josephine was the daughter of the late Antonio and Maria (Accetta) Caliri. She was one of seven children of immigrant parents and grew up on Federal Hill.

After graduation from Central High School, Josephine was employed in the cash office at Woolworth's and later as a bookkeeper at D'Ercole Construction in Cranston for many years.

In 1965 she married Charles and moved to Westerly to raise her family. As a homemaker she volunteered at St. Pius X, her daughters' elementary school, and took a tax preparer's course at H&R Block so that she could help seniors file their taxes. She also worked summers at the Breezeway Resort in Misquamicut and at the Book & Tackle Shop in Watch Hill.

She spent many happy hours chatting with neighbors while keeping an eagle eye on the kids at Misquamicut beach. She was a devoted communicant of St. Clare's Church in Misquamicut, and after every mass she prepared a full Sunday afternoon dinner.

Josephine is mourned by her two daughters, Joyce Kinsman of Marshfield, MA and Arlene Harsch of McMurray, PA. She was a loving grandmother to Gianna Kinsman and Adam Harsch. She is survived by a sister, Mary Vispo of Coventry, RI, and a brother, Tom Caliri and his wife Carol of Florida. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters: Phyllis Smith, Joseph Caliri, Tony Caliri, and Anna Dodson. She leaves behind a plethora of devoted nieces and nephews, on whom she doted.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at St. Clare's Church on Crandall Avenue in Misquamicut.

Burial will follow at the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery in Exeter, RI.
