Joyce C. Irwin-Stanton, 79, formerly of Ashaway, passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at South County Hospital. She was the wife of the late Gerold E. Stanton. Born in Westerly on June 30, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Carroll Frederick and Lois May (Larkin) Burdick.
Joyce drove school bus for the Chariho School District for many years then worked for VNS of Wakefield before ending her employment as a Medical Administrator in Westerly. She was a hard worker but always made time to volunteer. She was one of the founding members of the Ashaway Ambulance Association, den leader for Cub Scouts, active member of the Ladies Auxiliary with the Ashaway Fire Department and delivered many Meals on Wheels. Joyce loved playing scrabble, growing beautiful roses, traveling to new places, and collecting beanie babies. The biggest love of her life was spending time with family especially her grandchildren.
She leaves her 3 sons Richard Irwin of Westerly, Scott Irwin and his wife Debbie (Thomas) of Hope Valley, Carroll Irwin, and his wife Elizabeth (Batty) of Richmond; 8 grandchildren Shawn and his wife Jennifer, Shawn, Bryan, Joshua, Brittany and her husband Jamie, Shane, Tyler, and Hunter; 2 great-grandchildren Conor and Shawn Jr; her brother Jay Burdick of Southaven Mississippi; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers Gary Burdick and Dale Burdick and her former loving husband Robert Irwin.

A memorial service will be held at a later date by the family.
