Kevin James Lowther

Kevin James Lowther, 66 of Westerly, passed away peacefully at Westerly Hospital on Saturday, November 11, 2023, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of Dianne Patricia (Walker) Lowther. Born in Newark, NJ on January 22, 1957, he was the son of the late Avant and Doris (Smith) Lowther.

Kevin worked as an acoustic engineer and analyst for the Naval Undersea Warfare Center for 38 years before retiring in 2023, including Pentagon assignments and submarine testing around the United States and around the world. Outside of work, you could find Kevin serving selflessly throughout his life, leading PTO functions, sitting on the board of the Academic Decathlon, driving fundraising for the Westerly High School band boosters or being a church trustee. Kevin shared his joy of life through playing clarinet and singing in the church choir, enjoying music from Tower of Power's soul to Bach's concertos, diving into a favorite dessert or finding the perfect sound in a speaker setup. In addition, he loved bowling, traveling and reading, fiction especially. More than any of these things, he loved his wife, Dianne.

Besides his wife, he leaves children Kevin Lowther II, Marcus Lowther and wife Nathalie Flores; grandchild Lucia Lowther-Flores; siblings Willette Fears, Olivia Jones and husband Travis Jones, brother Wilford Lowther, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by father Avant Lowther, mother Doris Lowther, step-mom Joan Lowther, and brother Avant Lowther Jr.

Calling hours will be held from 4:00pm – 6:00pm on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly, RI. A celebration of life will be held at 1:00pm on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at the Dunn’s Corners Community Church Presbyterian, 221 Post Rd, Westerly, RI. Burial will be held privately.
