Lana C. Capizzano, 81, a resident of Westerly, RI passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on April 25th at the Westerly Hospital. Lana lived the all-American romance, marrying her high school sweetheart – this culminated in a 62-year marriage to her beloved husband and best friend Jimmy “Cap” Capizzano. Born in Ashaway, RI on May 16, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Erik and Mary (Littlefield) Keskinen.
Lana was a graduate of Westerly High School, Class of ‘59. She was an avid sports fan and loved to spend Sunday’s watching football, particularly her favorite team the New York Giants. Before football season began, Lana would make her annual Saratoga trip with Jimmy, friends, and family, where they created countless memories. She enjoyed playing cards, Bingo, and exceled at trivia, which was evident when she was one win away from appearing as a contestant on Jeopardy. Lana was proud of her bookkeeping work at Hanley & Williams, along with her Finnish heritage and cooking skills. She was a fantastic cook, with one of her specialties being spezzi, which people would come from out of state to try. What she was proud of and enjoyed the most though was her family. She cherished spending time with them and would never hesitate to pick up the phone to ensure everyone was okay. They all appreciated those calls and could not have asked for someone more loving, gentle, and warm in their life.
Besides her husband, she leaves her daughter Jamie, son-in-law Paul, and grandchildren Gianna and Aidan Bender; as well as a sister Diana Keskinen. She was preceded in death by her son Giacomo.
Calling hours will be held on May 4th from 3-7PM at the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St. Westerly, RI. Funeral services will be held the following day, May 5th at 10AM, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 44 Elm St. Westerly. All are invited to meet directly at the church.
Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
