Leonard “Lenny” John Prue III, of Bradford, RI, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2022, at the age of 71, in his home, with his long-time companion of 23 years, Tara Pickar, lovingly at his side. Born in New London, CT on April 18, 1951, he was the son of Leonard John Jr and Maryann Judith (Brand) Smith. He also had a loving step-father, George Augustus Smith.
Those that knew him, will remember him by his sense of humor. He would make Christmas cards out to “Kid 1”, “Kid 2”, and “Kid 3”. He was an Army Veteran who fought in the Vietnam War. As he got older, he was a car mechanic, taxi driver, dispatcher, and many other things. He was a Jack-of-all-trades, but he found his greatest joy in cars and CB radios. He loved getting his hands dirty working on bicycles and antique cars. It was very common to see him joyriding around Westerly, RI in his primer gray Model A chop top, with Tara by his side. He loved going to car shows and meeting like minded people. He also enjoyed learning new things and teaching others about cars.
Beside his long-time companion, Tara, he leaves behind his sister, Patricia Nott, his children; Tanya Austin, Heidi Abosso, Rox-Anne Schick and her husband, David Schick, Bambie-Lea Prue, and Seannah-Rea Prue; His Grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Santa Grandpa”; Kayla Austin, Elizabeth Austin, Kendall Austin, Elijah Austin, Quinten Surber, Ana-Bele (Kai) Schick, Scar-Lette (Jayden) Schick, Jewley-Ette Schick, Jaxon Paddon, and Kay-Lin Richard; 5 great-grandchildren; long-time best friend Greg Porter, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by all three parents, his sister, Susan Steele, and his nephew, Brian Brown.
In lieu of flowers, Donations can be made, in his name, to Ella T. Grasso Tech’s automotive and autobody shops.
A celebration of Lenny’s life will be held from 2-5pm on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at Washington Park in Groton, CT. Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St. Westerly, RI is assisting the family with arrangements.
