Louis Robert Caswell

March 10, 1950 ~ December 20, 2020 (age 70) 70 Years Old

Tribute

Louis Robert Caswell, 70, of N. Stonington, CT passed away unexpectedly on Sunday December 20, 2020. He was the loving husband of Mary Elizabeth (Isenhour) Caswell. Born in New London, CT on March 10, 1950, he was the son of the late George Stephen and Gladys May (Singer) Caswell, Sr.

Louis grew up on Caswell Lane in North Stonington Village. His first employment was at Birkbeck Farm where he affirmed the value of hard work. He was especially proud of being a 30 year member of Labors International Union Local 547. Most recently, Louis worked as an independent contractor Stone Mason. His most impressive achievement was building a stone bell tower at the Marian Friary of our Lady of Guadalupe in Griswold, CT. When Louis walked through North Stonington, you could routinely hear residents yelling, “Here comes the world famous mason!”

Louis truly loved his neighbors and the North Stonington community. He was a hard working man who was always willing to lend a helping hand. Gardening, canning, or bird sanctuary – he did it all. His gifts to his community were his time to always talk, help others in any way that he could, and his positive attitude. He was regularly seen working in his yard and tending his garden – he always gave gifts of vegetables, home canned goods, and homemade fudge and peanut butter cookies to friends and neighbors.

In tough times, strong people step forward. Louis became the primary care giver for two of his grandsons. To this day they still say to each other, “Before you do something stupid, what would Gramps say?”

Besides his wife Mary, he leaves behind his daughters Andrea (Ken) and Abby (Bernie); his grandchildren Jeremy, Chad, Todd, Lyndsey, Liam, and Donovan; his great-grandson Trevor; his siblings Joseph, Deedee (Buck), David, Elias, and John; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Kevin and his brothers Paul, George Jr., and James.

A church service will be held at a later date yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his name to the monastery of the Marian Friary of our Lady of Guadalupe, 199 Colonel Brown Road, Griswold, CT 06351 – (860) 376-6840.
