Mrs. Marcelle E. Hausammann Rosenfeld of Westerly, RI, passed away on November 29, 2021 at the Royal Nursing Home.
Marcelle was born on April 29, 1931 in Winterthur, Switzerland, the youngest of three daughters to Sophie and Paul Hausammann. She was 90 years old.
Her beloved husband Benjamin Rosenfeld predeceased her on January 21 of this year.
At the age of 17, Marcelle became a business student in Neuchatel, located in the French part of Switzerland. After graduating she worked for a bank in Zurich where she met her first husband Will Seiler. They married in 1953 and together raised their two daughters, Renée and Jill.
Will passed away in 1977 after a lengthy illness. Marcelle then provided for her family by working as a foreign language correspondence clerk for many years.
A couple years later, she met Ben who had come on vacation to Davos, Switzerland from the UK.
They married in 1985 and Marcelle moved to Manchester, UK.
In the fall of 1986, Marcelle and Ben immigrated to the United States, settling in New York State where Marcelle worked for several years at the Nyack Library before starting a distinguished career at the New City Library. In 2000, she and Ben made their home in Westerly to live permanently by the ocean.
Marcelle loved their frequent travels to the Adirondacks to go skiing or hiking. She was a lifelong avid reader and loved classical music. Before Alzheimer’s dimmed it, her eyes sparkled with a bright joy of life. She was equally charming and kind, always up for a conversation. Her vibrant personality left a lasting impression on anyone she met.
She is survived by her daughters Renée and Jill, her step children Rosalin, Julie, and Daniel, and her beloved cat Ginger.
The family would like to thank the Royal Nursing Home nurses and staff for their dedicated care of Marcelle for almost eight years.
Funeral services will be privately. The Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly is assisting the family with arrangements.
