Marcia Smith Stiehl, a longtime resident of East Hampton, died on September 15 in Westerly RI.
Marcia was born in 1937 in Flushing, New York to Katharine (Hayden) and George Wishart Smith.
After the family moved to Bolton CT, she graduated in 1955 from Manchester High School.
Marcia worked for many years for the American Cancer Society, heading the Willimantic office until it closed. She also volunteered with Literacy Volunteers in Willimantic as a tutor in English as a Second Language.
Her many interests included handicrafts, photography, and gems and minerals. She loved animals and was a supporter of several rescue organizations.
Marcia lived a life marked by creativity, independence, and a good sense of humor.
She leaves behind her son and daughter-in-law, Russell George and Diane Adamson of Westerly RI, her sister and brother-in-law Linda and Tom Chase of Woodstock CT, 4 nieces and 1 nephew, and 3 great nieces.
The family is grateful to Gail Embacher for her kind and thoughtful care of Marcia.
A memorial service will be held at the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St. Westerly on Tuesday September 24, 2019 at 2:00 Pm.
Calling hours will precede the service from 12-2 pm.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
