Marvin Lifschitz, 85, of Westerly, Rhode Island, previously of Croton-on-Hudson, New York, passed away on March 5th, 2023.

Marvin was born on August 10th, 1937 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Barbara and Benjamin Lifschitz. Marvin attended New York University to study Film and after graduating with his Bachelor’s degree from NYU, Marvin continued his education at Yeshiva University receiving his Master’s Degree and finally, his PhD in Psychotherapy from the Saybrook Institute.

Marvin went into private practice on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Throughout his distinguished 50 year career in Psychotherapy, Marvin helped hundreds of people while also being recognized as an expert in his field. In addition to his private practice, Marvin taught at the Westchester Institute of Psychoanalysis and was invited to present a published paper at the Bion Conference in Turin, Italy. Marvin was also a published author of two books on Gestalt Therapy and its integration with Psychoanalysis.

In 1975, Marvin met his wife of 44 years, Suzan. Together they had a son, David.

Marvin was an eternal optimist and enjoyed every day. When not focused on his loved ones, Marvin had a passion for theater, movies, writing, and sports. A life-long dream was realized in 2009 when a comedy he wrote, Freudian Slips, was produced with an Off-Broadway run at the Abingdon Theater and was reviewed by the New York Times.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Suzan, their son David and wife Caitlyn, and grandchildren, Layla and Isaac. Step-sons Arthur Anderson, Aaron Anderson and his wife Kathy, and grandchildren Gavin and Gwen Anderson. Marvin was also survived by his sister, Elaine Soloway and her husband Barry and their three children Marc, Brett and Abby.

Marvin was predeceased by his mother and father, Barbara and Benjamin.

A private graveside service was held on March 8th, 2023. If so inclined, a donation can be made in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.
