Mary H. Burton, 82, of Westerly, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at Oak Hill Rehabilitation Center in Pawtucket. She was the wife of the late Ronald I. Burton, Sr. Born in Westerly on October 16, 1940, she was the daughter of the late William and Hazel (Champlin) Crandall.
Mary loved people and all animals. She helped everyone that she could and extended that same care to all animals always trying to help any living being in need. She was outgoing and outspoken and you couldn’t help but love to be around her energy. Her trips to the casino were a frequent and favorite activity and never a dull moment while she was there. Her faith in the Lord kept her steady and she was a member of Seventh Day Baptist Church in Ashaway. Above all else, she loved her family and was a nurturing mother to her kids as they grew up supporting them at their ball games and trips to the beach. And as her family grew, the love continued to the blessings of grandchildren. She will be so dearly missed by all who knew her.
She leaves her daughter Marie Perkins of Griswold, CT and a son Richard Burton of Ashaway, RI; her 6 grandchildren Eric and Shane Perkins, Zachary Campbell, Emily and Amy Burton and Nicholas Burton; and a brother Terry Crandall of Florida. She was preceded in death by her son Ronald I. Burton, Jr. and a brother William Crandall.
In honor of Mary’s love for animals, memorial donations can be made in her name to "Friends of the Westerly Animal Shelter", 33 Larry Hirsch Ln, Westerly, RI 02891.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St. Westerly, RI followed by committal prayers at First Hopkinton Cemetery, Hopkinton. Friends are welcome to begin gathering at the funeral home at 10:30am before the service.
