Mary Innes Shepley passed away at the Royal Westerly Nursing home on April 6, 2018.

Mary was born in 1927 in the Bronx, New York as the eldest daughter of David Dingwall and Mary (Mason) Dingwall. Mary was brought up in Newport, Rhode Island where she attended Rogers High School and graduated in the class of 1945.

Mary graduated from Rhode Island College (later became URI) with a teaching degree and a bachelors in Home Economics. She became a sister of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority while attending college. Upon graduating, some of her initial student teaching was in Westerly, Rhode Island. Her first full teaching position was in Danbury, Connecticut.

Mary married William I Shepley, Jr at the Trinity Church in Newport, R.I. in 1950.

After they moved to New Jersey, Mary taught Home Economics in the Montgomery School system. She was an avid member of Neshanic Garden Club while living in Skillman, New Jersey.

After retirement, Mary and her husband retired to their cottage in Jamestown, Rhode Island. Mary became an active member of the Quononoquott Garden Club.

Mary is survived by her son, William Bruce Shepley of Oregon and her daughters, Susan Innes Shepley of Connecticut and Jean Ellen Paterson of New Jersey. She has three grandchildren; Nancy Paterson, David Shepley, and Colin Shepley as well as three step-grandchildren; Jonathan Paterson, Ryan Paterson, and Kathy Paterson.

Mary is predeceased by her husband, and her brothers, David Dingwall and James Dingwall as well as her sister Elizabeth Crosby.

Mary enjoyed being a people person, gardening, fishing, and her family.
Burial will be private.
