Michael Joseph Bentzel, 68, of Westerly, passed away surrounded by the love of his family on December 24, 2021 at Westerly Hospital. He was the loving husband of Jacqueline Patrice (McDonald) Capanna. He was born in Hanover, PA on April 30, 1953, he was the son of the late Earl Stanley and Nadine Ada (Flickinger) Bentzel.
Mike lived for many years at the South Jersey Shore. Where he worked as an engineer and project manager in the Fire Protection Field. He designed many systems, and oversaw the installation process from start to finish. From small businesses to large casinos, there were no limits to the size of his projects. In 1996 he moved to Rhode Island and changed his career. He got into the Table Games Department at a large Casino where stayed for 22 years, until his retirement.
Mike was a very intelligent yet laid back, honest and gentle man. He was always kind to others, and known for doing the right thing.
Mike loved the outdoors. He enjoyed golfing, in almost any weather. Gardening and working in his yard was a passion as well. Going to church on Sunday was a priority. He also enjoyed Football, Baseball, world and local news, as well as current events. He loved celebrating the holidays with his family. He was famous for cooking incredible Thanksgiving Dinners. Mike also lovingly carried on many family recipes, like homemade candies and cakes at Christmas. Most of all Mike enjoyed spending time with his family.
Besides his wife Jacqueline, he leaves his daughter, Michele (Bentzel) Perrin and partner Matthew Pratt; his grandchildren Kelly Bentzel, Derek Perrin and Curtis Perrin; his siblings Max Bentzel and wife Pat, Nancy Persinger and husband James, Cindy Null and husband David; his father-in-law John Patrick McDonald; his sister-in-law Ruby Bentzel along with many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his longtime friend, and golf partner Larry Bell. He was preceded in death by his brother Garry Bentzel and mother-in-law Rose Marie Campbell Capanna.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Pilgrims Baptist Church 27 Chase Hill Rd. in Ashaway, on Tuesday, January 4th at 11:00am, with a lite lunch to follow in the church fellowship Hall.
