Michael Angelo DePaola, 31, of Shore Road, Westerly and formerly of Naugatuck, CT., died unexpectedly on Thursday February 16, 2023.
Born in Danbury, CT, on June 20, 1991 he was the beloved son of Leo N. and Denise (Gravel) DePaola.
Michael graduated from Naugatuck High School class of 2009 and received his BA degree in Anthropology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and at the time of his death was working on his Master’s degree in linguistics from Boston University.
Michael was a dedicated worker at the United Theatre as a Front House staff member and also worked at the Café at the theatre.
He was a member of the Order of the Selohaar, where he was made a knight of the order in December of 2022, and to quote Christian Tobler the Grand Master of the order “Michael was among the finest human beings I have ever known”. He enjoyed learning about 14th Century Marshall Arts, writing, linguistics, reading and philosophy.
Besides his loving parents he will be sadly missed by his brother, Joseph DePaola of Westerly, his maternal grandmother, Rita Gravel of Naugatuck, CT, and his paternal grandmother Geraldine DePaola of Edison, NJ he also leaves many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandfathers, Louis Gravel and Leo DePaola.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday February 23, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Pius X. Church, 44 Elm St. Westerly, RI. Burial will follow in River Bend, Cemetery, Beach St. Westerly, RI.
