Patrick M. "Pat" Volpe of Westerly, passed away at home on Saturday, March 25, 2017, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on January 20, 1943, in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, Pat was the son of the late Michael and Margaret (Giampietro) Volpe.
Pat is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Stephanie (Chernasky) Volpe, his daughter, Renee Gibbs and her son, Jackson, of Alexandria, Virginia, his son, Edward Flynn and his daughter, Zoe, of Westerly. He also leaves his dear aunts, uncles and cousins in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Pat will be remembered for his utmost love of family (especially his grandchildren!!) and friends, his passion for golf, always wanting to be near the ocean, and his love of life!!
Pat worked as a policeman in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, for many years. He then relocated to Westerly, working as a Security Officer at General Dynamics, Electric Boat Division in Quonset Point, Rhode Island, retiring after 21 years with the rank of Sergeant.
Following his retirement, Pat was employed by The Ocean House in Watch Hill from 2010 until his illness. In the words of the Human Resources Department, Pat was “one of the most beloved and valued employees” at the Ocean House, and will be “missed dearly.”
He was also a Lifetime Member of the Westerly Fire Police and a member of the Winnapaug Country Club.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly on Thursday, March 30th for calling hours from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday morning, March 31st, at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929.
