Richard J. Altimari, 86, of School St. Westerly, RI, died peacefully on Monday April 19, 2021 at the Westerly Hospital, surrounded by his three children. He was the beloved husband of Grace (Catalano) Altimari.
Born in Westerly, RI on March 28, 1935 he was the son of the late John and Mary (Boumenot) Altimari.
Mr. Altimari was employed as a Welding Engineer at Electric Boat for over 30 years before retiring. He was a man of very strong faith and communicant of St. Pius X. Church in Westerly, RI.
Richard was a past President of the Westerly American Little League and an avid New York Yankee and New York Giant football fan.
He was especially proud of his four grandchildren and never missed a sporting event.
Besides his loving and devoted wife he will be sadly missed by his three children; Richard J. Altimari Jr. (Julie) of Naples FL., Stephen T. Altimari of Westerly and Debra J. Thomas (Michael) of Pawcatuck, CT. He was the loving grandfather of Jennifer, Renee, Alex and Benjamin. He also leaves two sisters, Jaqueline Varga and Kay Vuono. He was predeceased by his sisters and brothers, Mary Pellegrino, Nora Kash, John, James and Natale Altimari.
The family will greet relatives and friends for visiting hours on Thursday, April 22 from 4pm– 7pm at Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St, Westerly. Guidelines for wearing masks, social distancing and capacity limitations of the funeral home will be in effect.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday April 23, 2021 at 10 AM at St. Pius X. Church, 44 Elm St., Westerly. There is no procession from the funeral home to church. Burial will follow with full military honors in St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly
