Richard F. Chipperfield, 84, passed away peacefully at the Royal Westerly Nursing Center on December 29, 2022. He was the beloved husband for 60 years to the late Patricia (Donahue) Chipperfield, his high school sweetheart, who predeceased him in September 2020.
Richard was born in Fall River, Massachusetts to the late Russell Chipperfield, Sr., and Henrietta (Pillmear) Chipperfield. He was raised in Pawcatuck, CT and attended Stonington schools.
Richard was a gifted athlete who excelled at many sports. He was a member of the 1950 Westerly Little League World Series team. Recognized for accomplishments in football, basketball, baseball and track and field, Richard was inducted into Stonington High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
After attending Colgate University, he went to work at Electric Boat. In 1966 he cofounded Posi-Seal International Co. Richard also spent many years in consulting and other business ventures. In retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family as a kindhearted, prideful, and loving grandfather.
Richard was a faith filled member of Central Baptist Church. He loved reading, poetry, dancing, beaching, and rooting for his beloved Boston sports teams.
Richard will be sadly missed by his children Pamela Stefanski (Pete), Wendy Ritchotte (Glen), Scott Chipperfield (Kim) and Timothy Chipperfield (Tracy); his grandchildren Kaitlyn Ware, Julie Porter, Allison Hollis, Daniel Ritchotte, Samantha Zoglio and Heather Barber; five great-grandsons; his siblings, Beverly Dorsey, Barbara Robinson, Robert Chipperfield, Janice Amidon, and Sandra Cook.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his infant daughter Julie Chipperfield; his Chipperfield siblings Glen, Francis, Russell, Jr., and Carolyn Whitford.
