Richard C. Portofee

Richard C. Portofee, 91 formerly of 5 Holly Drive Westerly, RI died peacefully on Wednesday March 21, 2018 at the Apple Rehab Watch Hill. He was the beloved husband of the late Alice (Weber) Portofee.
Born in Hempstead, Long Island on November 29, 1926 he was the son of the late Simon and Helen (Upham) Portofee.
Richard had been employed as a Mechanical Engineer at Electric Boat in Groton, CT. for many years. During retirement he volunteered at Chestnut Court and the Westerly Health Center where he taught a bible study class.

Richard always enjoyed making people laugh with his unique sense of humor, and was a devout Detroit Tiger’s fan.

He will be sadly missed by his sons; Douglas Portofee (Teri) of Plant City, FL, Donald Portofee (Lisa) of Westerly, RI and Alan Portofee (Sue) of Norwich, CT; and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
The Portofee family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday March 25, 2018 from 3-6 PM at the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St. Westerly, RI. Funeral service will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in George Washington Memorial Park Cemetery, Paramus, NJ.
