Robert A. Bessey

Robert “Bob” Allerton Bessey died peacefully at home in Westerly, RI on May 16, 2023, at the age of 78. Born to Harold and Evelyn (Petters) Bessey, in Wausau, Wisconsin on May 19, 1944. He graduated Wausau Senior High in 1962 and the University of Wisconsin in Madison in 1966. He obtained his Masters in social work and began working at the Wisconsin Department of Corrections in Milwaukee.

Bob moved to Aspen, Colorado for a change of lifestyle. There he met a fellow “ski bum”, Patty Humphrey in 1974. They married in 1976 and enjoyed the ‘Colorado lifestyle’ of skiing, hiking, camping and mountain biking and appreciating the magnificent Rocky Mountains. Bob was employed as the front office manager for the Paas family at the Limelite Lodge for 27 years in downtown Aspen. In 1979 their daughter Katie was born. In 2001, they moved to the East Coast, relocating to Patty’s childhood summer home in Mystic, CT. There Bob worked and volunteered at Mystic Seaport.

In 2008 he and Patty moved from Mystic to Prescott, Arizona to begin their retirement years. He and Patty were members of Unity of Prescott and enjoyed a community of wonderful lifelong friends.

In 2016, Bob and Patty’s daughter, Katie, gave birth to his grandson, Benjamin Robert Sisco prompting their move back to the East Coast. Bob continued to lead an active lifestyle, especially enjoying supporting the UCONN Women’s Basketball and being with his grandson, Ben.

Bob will be greatly missed by his wife of 47 years; his daughter Katie Bessey; his six-year-old grandson, Benjamin; his sister, Susan Scheunemann of Alaska; his nephews: Judd Bessey of Iowa and Todd Bessey of Wisconsin and their families.

A service for Bob will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Chorus of Westerly Kent Hall located on High St. in Westerly.  All are welcome to attend.
