Ruth N. Whitford passed on Wednesday, April 28, 2021. Born in Providence, RI in 1918 to Ruth Sarah Hayden and Arthur Rosengarten Nagle, Ruth had an amazing life. She attended Lincoln School, Classical High School and Smith College and married Theodore “Ted” Whitford in 1948. Ruth had many accomplishments for which she was proud including graduating from URI in 1974 under the Continuing Education for Women program. With her husband, Ted, she was active in the Moses Brown School community, and later, she and Ted were co-directors of Hamilton House, an adult learning exchange in Providence, RI. Ruth enjoyed life and served on many boards, volunteered and traveled. One of her favorite trips was through the Panama Canal with her sister Bette. She loved learning and was quite adept at using an iPad even at 102 years old. Being able to do Facetime with her family was one thing she was truly amazed by. She loved the Red Sox, reading, listening to music and doing crossword puzzles.
Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Ted; her son, Ned; and her sister Elizabeth Selle. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Barbara; granddaughter, Sarah and her husband Sean Sweeney; and granddaughter, Lucy and her husband Michael Freitas.
