Stanley R. Lessing Jr., 80, of High St., Ashaway, R.I., died peacefully on Friday, April 27, 2018 at the Westerly Hospital.
Born in Newark, N.J., on July 25, 1937 he was the son of the late Stanley, Sr. and Elsie (Zarra) Lessing.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 59 years, Harriet A. (Buck) Lessing, six sons, Steven, Michael, Gerard, Gregory, Stanley, and Christopher, as well as eleven grandchildren.
Mr. Lessing attended schools in Newark & Bloomfield, NJ. After high school he joined the U.S Navy in 1955 & served on the Sub Tender U.S. Fulton Station in New London, CT. After being honorably discharged he went to work at Electric Boat. Starting off as a welder in 1959, he moved up to working leader in 1972, welding supervisor in 1973, general foreman in 1976, & ARCA superintendent in 1979. He worked a total of 34 years before retiring from E.B in 1993 at the age of 56 years old; 20 years in Groton, CT & 14 years in Quonset Point, RI. He also worked as a security guard for 2 years and for the Eastern Felt Co. for 6 years.
Stanley was an avid baseball fan who followed the NY Yankees throughout his life. He coached and managed the Pawcatuck Little League from 1960 to 1965; his team was The Westerly Dairy. He himself played softball and handball in The Westerly Leagues. He was a past member of the Moose Club, the Bradford Club, and the E.B Athletic Club.
Funeral service and burial will be private.
