Thelma H. Gaccione

Thelma H. (Hughes) Gaccione, 90, of Lamphere Rd, Westerly, RI, died peacefully Sunday evening April 15, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Vincent ‘Vin” Gaccione.
Born in Providence, RI on April 30, 1927 she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Myrtle (Flodin) Hughes.
Thelma graduated from Barat College of the Sacred Heart in Lake Forest, Illinois and earned her Bachelor’s in Education from Rhode Island College.
Mrs. Gaccione went on to have a long teaching career in the Westerly Pubic School district. Teaching second and fourth grade at Tower Street School and retiring from teaching the fourth grade at Babcock Junior High.
Thelma enjoyed working in her gardens at her home. She enjoyed nature, crafts, and was a long time member of the Dante Society.
Besides her husband of 70 years, she will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Patricia Shehan and her husband, Mark of Providence, RI, and Pamela Nardone and her husband, William Greenfield of Brooklyn, NY. She was the loving grandmother of Chloe Bernbach and her husband, Mathew and their daughter Minna; Zenia Morrone and her husband, Brian and their children, Dominic and Alec. She also leaves her two brothers, William Hughes and Richard Hughes, both of Rhode Island. She was predeceased by her two grandsons, Cyrus Shehan and Woody Greenfield; and her brother, Paul Hughes.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at St. Clare Church, 4 St. Clares Way, Westerly, RI at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in River Bend Cemetery. Calling hours are respectively omitted.
