Thomas H. Douglas Jr.

March 31, 1966 ~ February 25, 2023 (age 56) 56 Years Old

Tribute

Thomas H. Douglas, Jr., (known to loved ones as Tommy, Urie, Rookie, TD, Phil, among a few) of Westerly, RI passed away on Saturday, Feb. 25th surrounded by family and friends after a courageous fight with pancreatic cancer. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Margo (Haviland) Douglas, his daughters Madelyn (Cory) Hoi and Margo Douglas, his mother Connie (Gary) Dowrey, his brothers Michael (Laura) Douglas and Stephen Douglas. Tom will also be lovingly remembered by many aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends, and childhood teammates. He is predeceased by his father, Thomas H. Douglas Sr.

Tom grew up in Pawcatuck, CT and attended Stonington Public Schools. Tom loved sports, and he participated in many local youth sports leagues prior to attending Stonington High School, where he was a multi-sport athlete and wore #7 as quarterback for the Bears. After graduation, Tom attended Eastern Connecticut State University where he earned his Bachelor’s degree and went on to earn his Master’s degree from the University of New Haven. At the time of his passing, Tom was a Buyer Principal at Electric Boat in New London, CT.

Tom met his wife Margo along East Beach in Watch Hill. The Westerly shoreline remained a special place throughout his life as a place to spend time with family and friends, ride his truck along the beach, and fish. When not by the water, Tom loved nothing more than to sit and watch a Yankees baseball or UCONN basketball game with family and friends while enjoying a perfectly grilled steak with mushrooms and onions. As an adoring “girl dad”, he was always there in the audience or cheering in the stands for dance recitals, swim meets, tennis matches, cheerleading events, chorus concerts, and many other milestones in his daughters’ lives. He will always be remembered for his charismatic spirit, contagious laugh, ability to connect to others, make them smile, and light up any room he walked into.

Relatives and friends will be received at Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home during visiting hours on Friday, March 3rd from 4-7pm. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 4th at 11am at Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Tom’s name to the Stonington Little League or the Aaron Judge All Rise Foundation.
