Umile Ritacco, 73 of 9 Jana Road Westerly, RI, died peacefully on Sunday April 23, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Maria (Fucile) Ritacco.
Born in Bisignano, Italy, on April 20, 1944, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Rosaria (DeBartolo) Ritacco.
Mr. Ritacco moved to New York from Italy in 1961 and soon after came to Westerly, Rhode Island in 1969 where along-side his family they have owned and operated Ritacco’s Market on Oak St. for past 48 years.
Mr. Ritacco was a proud member of the Westerly Lodge of Elks #678 and a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Westerly.
Umile will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and Nanutz.
Besides his wife of over 51 years he will be sadly missed by his children; John Ritacco and his wife Chrissy, Bob Ritacco and his wife Gayle and Melisa Ritacco all of Westerly, RI. He was the loving Nanutz of Robert, Michael, Julia, Anthony and Gianna. He was pre-deceased by his grandson John Ritacco Jr. He was the brother of Elena Fiore of Waterford, CT, Francesco Ritacco of Pawcatuck, CT, Giuseppe Ritacco of Cosenza, Italy and Mario Ritacco of Port Chester, NY. He was the brother of the late Vincenzo Ritacco, Angelo Ritacco and Maria Ambrosecchio.
The Ritacco family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday April 26, 2017 from 4-8 PM at the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St. Westerly, RI. A Mass of Christian burial will be concelebrated on Thursday April 27, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Church, 111 High St. Westerly, RI. There will be no procession from the funeral home. Entombment will be in the Ritacco Mausoleum, St. Sebastian Cemetery.
