Tribute

Anthony D. Ribeiro, of Sarasota, FL and formally of Westerly, RI, passed away in Sarasota on Saturday, March 10, 2018. He was the beloved husband of 37 years to Mary (Downes) Brown Ribeiro, and also to Frances Carlesi Ribeiro. Anthony was born in Westerly, RI on October 4, 1926 to John and Sally (DeSilva) Ribeiro. He graduated from Westerly High School and was a member of the Class of 1945. Anthony served in the U.S Navy Armed Guards for two years during WWII and also owned and operated Westerly Bakery.
Tony was a communicant of St. Pius X Church. He belonged to the Westerly Senior Center, Knights of Columbus, Westerly Elks Club, AARP, and the Fraternal Order of Police. He enjoyed refinishing furniture and was a great gardener who grew enough to share with family and friends. His grapevines produced enough grapes to be made into about 150 jars of grape jelly each year. His bakery also donated lots of dough and bread to organization's fundraising events.
Besides his wife Mary, he is survived by his sons; John Ribeiro, Anthony Ribeiro (Mary), a daughter; Diana Simone (Peter), two step-sons; Richard Brown (Wendy), Michael Brown, a step-daughter; Janet Rojo (Roberto), fourteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, four sisters-in-law; Jacqueline Scott, Carol Leach (John), Barbara Cillino, and Myra Ball (John). He will also be missed by his friend, Ralph Tucker with whom he met for coffee twice a week for many years.
In addition to his parents and his wife Frances, he was predeceased by his first-born son, Raymond Ribeiro, as well as, several much-loved Beagles who Tony enjoyed walking and taking for car rides.
A funeral service will be held in Westerly, RI at a later date. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 10:00am at St. Pius X Church, Cross St, Westerly, RI. Burial with full military honors will follow at St. Sebastian Cemetery.
