Tribute

Gary C. Burgess of Mystic, CT passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Westerly Hospital. Born on July 16, 1936 in New London, CT to Valencia and James Clayton Burgess, he attended New London schools and graduated from New London High School.

He was a veteran of the Korean War and had enlisted in the US Army in 1954 during the Korean crisis. He attended the US Army Military Police School and served in Germany and France until September 1957 and was recalled in August 1957 and served until January 1959. He was employed as an apprentice welder at Electric Boat in 1958 and advanced through EB and retired as a Welding Superintendent and then helped as a consultant at EB. Afterwards, he was an Operation Manager for Pequot River Shipworks until 2001 building high speed ferry boats and then worked at Foxwoods as a surveillance officer.

Gary and his wife Dorothea lived a quiet life, both enjoyed UCONN Men’s and Women’s basketball, the NY Giants and Yankees and had been season ticket holders for the CT Sun WNBA. Gary and his wife enjoyed their pets Bear and Tyson and all of the many pets they had over the years.

Funeral services will be held privately by the family. Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St. Westerly is assisting the family with arrangements.
