Jeffrey G. Sheley

Jeffrey Griffing Sheley, 77, of Westerly, RI passed away on May 21, 2018 after a brief battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband for 45 years of Barbara (Guite) Sheley. Jeff also leaves behind a son, Matthew Sheley and daughter-in-law Heather (Nichols) Sheley of Middletown, RI and a daughter, Lisa Sheley of Jamestown, RI. He was the proud grandfather to three cherished grandchildren, Matthew Gough and Sarah and Samuel Sheley.
Born on August 20, 1940, Jeff grew up in West Hartford, CT, the son of Russell and Gertrude (Wooldridge) Sheley. After graduating from New London High School in 1958, Jeff attended Trinity College and was a member of Alpha Delta Phi. A natural storyteller, many of Jeff’s best tales revolved around the adventures he and his fraternity brothers had. After graduation from college in 1962 and a brief stint in the Army and selling insurance in New York City, Jeff settled into a 36 year career as a respected stockbroker in Hartford, Farmington and Mystic, CT. He and Barbara raised their family in West Hartford and ultimately retired to their summer home in Westerly. Jeff and Barb liked to fill their retirement days with long walks around Watch Hill and even longer rides exploring Rhode Island and coastal Connecticut and Massachusetts. Forever interested in finance, Jeff was reading Barron’s and tracking investments into his final days.
The funeral will be private. A celebration of life will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations are kindly asked to be made to the American Cancer Society in Jeff’s memory.
