Joseph W. Dionne

February 23, 1936 ~ April 22, 2021 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Tribute

Joseph W. Dionne, 85, of Westerly, passed away on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at his home. He was the husband of Joyce (Morris) Dionne, and together they shared 64 years of marriage. Born in Westerly on February 23, 1936, he was the son of the late Arthur Oliver and Margaret (Schackner) Dionne.

Joe was proud to be a third generation carpenter. He learned his craft from his father-in-law, Henry Morris. He worked for Morris and Turano for twenty years before starting his own general contracting business, Dionne Builders, in the mid-seventies.

Joe was a skilled finish carpenter and cabinet maker. He was a member of the Dunn’s Corners Fire Department and also served for many years on the Board of Directors at Westerly Savings and Loan. He loved to read, travel, and watch the daffodils he planted bloom. In his 60’s he was introduced to golf, which he greatly enjoyed playing with family and friends.

Joe was a funny, loving, kind, and generous man with a very strong faith in God. He had the best laugh and a slapstick sense of humor. An avid storyteller, he delighted in sharing stories and memories about his childhood, family, Navy days and work experiences. He was a man who loved coffee, was never late for lunch and always had crackers in his pocket.

In addition to his wife Joyce, Joe is survived by his children Ann Twomey (John), Bruce Dionne (Jennifer), and Amy Dionne; his grandchildren Matthew, Kaela, Andrew and Stephen; Two great-grandchildren; his siblings Shirley Mills, and John Dionne (Angela); sister-in-law Nancy Schilke (Edward); many nieces and nephews; and his beloved rescue dog Oliver.

Joe was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur Dionne, and Rev. Robert Dionne and his in-laws Henry and Calista Morris.
