Lester J. Smith

Lester J. Smith of Charlestown, RI died peacefully on March 8, 2021. He was the beloved husband for 61 years of the late Naomi (Stewart) Smith.
Lester was born in Wakefield, RI on December 24, 1934 to the late Lester J. Smith Sr. and Dorothy (Perkins) Smith.

Lester worked at Agway in Westerly for years and at Aetna Pump in Ashaway.
Known as “Sonny” by family and close friends, he was a talented musician and played Country music in various venues and bands in the area, and recorded an album in Nashville under the Stage Name “Slim Martin”.

Sonny and his wife Naomi “Allene” enjoyed raising a large garden and various animals on a small farm in Charlestown. He was also an avid collector of antique Americana and farm implements.

He will be sadly missed by his 3 children Cheryl (Peter) Abbruzese of Port Charlotte FL, Jeffrey (Diane) Smith of Charlestown, RI and Dorothy (Bob) Broccolo of Bradford, RI. Seven grandchildren, Jo-Ann (Randy) Miller, Jeanna Thomas (Anthony Addessi), Daniel (Jody) Smith, Douglas Smith (Lindsey Austin), Robert Broccolo, Racheal Broccolo and Rebecca Broccolo. Eleven great grandchildren, Danielle, Samantha, Katelyn, Casandra, Morghan, Anthoney, Giovanni, Auriella, Adrian, Isabella and Sawyer.

Funeral services and burial in River Bend Cemetery, will be private per request of the family.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Westerly, RI.
