Madeleine Cecelia Whewell

Madeleine Cecelia (Rossi) Whewell, 88, of Pawcatuck, CT, formerly of East Ave, Westerly, RI passed away peacefully at home with her loving daughter by her side on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2018. She was the wife of the late Peter LoPriore, Jr. and Milton Whewell. Born in Westerly, RI on October 15, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Louis J. and Celena J. (Malnati) Rossi.
Madeleine had worked for many years as bookkeeper and photography assistant for Stiles Studio. She had also owned The Wigwam, which was located where Paddy’s Beach Club on Atlantic Ave is today. In her free time, she loved gardening, spending time in the outdoors and several trips to visit her daughter in Texas in the 80’s along with seasonal vacations to Lake George. She also just enjoyed spending time relaxing at home and being with her favorite black labs Tex and Syndey and Blackie her rescue cat. Her faith was very important to her and she enjoyed attending St. Clare Roman Catholic Church
She leaves her loving daughter Celena Marie LoPriore of Pawcatuck, CT along with several cousins.
A special thank you to her dear friends Dolores Carlo and Linda M. Joslin, who were caregivers to her; to Deacon Carl LaFleur and the women who came to the house to give her communion along with the Masonicare hospice nurses, your loving care was so appreciated.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00a.m. on Monday, December 31, 2018 at St. Clare Roman Catholic Church, 4 Saint Clare Way, Westerly, RI 02891. Family and friends will meet directly at the church. Burial will follow at River Bend Cemetery, Westerly. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, December 30, 2018 for 2:00p.m. to 5:00p.m. at Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St. Westerly, RI 02891.
