Robert B. Spargo

Robert B. “Bob” Spargo, 85, of Westerly, RI, died peacefully on Thursday April 27, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Carol A. (Hutchings) Spargo.

Born in Westerly, RI on December 23, 1937 he was the son of the late Robert L. and Una (Clark) Spargo.

Bob graduated from Boston University School of Fine Arts with his B.A. Degree and received his Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Rhode Island. He taught music at the Westerly and Chariho High Schools for several years then went on to teach at Cutler Middle School in Groton, CT for over 36 years before retiring. He was inducted into the Groton Education Hall of Fame.

Bob was a lifelong lover of music and a well-known trumpet player in his own band, The Eclectics. He also played trumpet at local churches and with the Noank-Mystic Band.

Mr. Spargo was an active member of the Dunn’s Corners Community Presbyterian Church in Westerly. Besides also being an avid golfer, Bob gave back to his community by volunteering often with Southern Rhode Island Volunteers.

In addition to his loving and devoted wife Carol of 63 years, Bob will be sadly missed by his three children; Stephen Spargo and his wife Angel, Brian Spargo and his wife Melissa, and Sherrie Spargo-Savage and her husband Kevin. He will be missed by his niece, Diane Bardwell, and family too. Furthermore, he was predeceased by his brother Lyall Spargo, but leaves his sister-in-law Beverly Spargo along with nieces and nephews. Bob also leaves his beloved 10 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his loving Cocker-Spaniel, Miller.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held Saturday May 20th, 2023 at 11 am at the Dunn’s Corners Community Presbyterian Church. Calling hours are respectfully omitted and burial in River Bend Cemetery will be private.
