Marie Patricia Smith

Marie Patricia (Raidel) Smith, 100, of Pawcatuck, CT, passed away peacefully at home after a wonderful and long life on Sunday, February 5, 2017. She was married to the love of her life Earl R. Smith, I, until his passing in 1983. Born on February 17, 1916, in Youngstown, OH, she was the daughter of the late George and Katherine (Horeth) Raidel.

Marie served her county proudly as a WAAC in the Army during WWII. She met her husband in the service and together they started a family. They also worked together sharing in the responsibilities of being the owners and operators of E.R. Smith. Outside of work, Marie enjoyed traveling all over the world on cruises and even sailed on the QE2 luxury ocean liner. She enjoyed college basketball especially her favorite the UCONN women’s basketball team and she also loved her New England Patriots. Marie also enjoyed being able to help others and would knit and crochet hats for the infants at the Westerly Hospital. She was a strong-willed and independent woman who will be so dearly missed by all who knew her.

She leaves her children Earl R. Smith, II, Sandra Andaloro and Ann Campbell; 9 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Thomas L. Smith, I and a great-granddaughter.

A celebration of Marie’s life will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St. Westerly, RI. Burial will follow at River Bend Cemetery in Westerly.
